Tadalafil (Cialis): treating male Erectile Dysfunction
Tadalafil is mainly used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men.
1. Mechanism for action in the United Nations
-Tadalafil inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5). This enzyme is responsible for degrading nitrogen monoxide (no)-cGMP dependent (cyclic monophosphate guanosin) into penile cavernous tissue.
-by inhibiting PDE-5, the concentration of cGMP increases, resulting in a relaxation of smooth muscles in the cavernous tissue of the penis. This allows greater blood flow to the penis, facilitating erection.
2. Other potential uses (not approved in all countries)
-in some cases, it has been studied for the treatment of pulmonary hypertension. In pulmonary hypertension, it is thought to help relax pulmonary blood vessels, improving circulation and cardiopulmonary function. However, this use is more experimental and subject to strict medical indications and follow-up.
